SiteAudit Platform Requirements

Platform Requirements Guidelines

The following platform requirements serve as guidelines and represent the minimum specifications that should be considered, based on the number of printers being monitored. While these requirements are sufficient for most environments, it may be necessary to increase the resources, such as RAM or hard drive space, depending on usage patterns.

Netaphor support is available to assist in evaluating performance and determining whether the assigned resources are adequate. Please note that physical hardware generally performs better than virtual machines. When using a virtual machine, it is crucial to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for physical hardware.

  • .NET 4.8 is required for all SiteAudit software.
  • Minimum display resolution of 1366 x 768 is recommended.

Note: Hosting Web reports requires IIS 10. SiteAudit supports both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems and various SQL server versions.

Hard Disk Space Requirements

During upgrades, SQL database log files can significantly grow in size. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure sufficient disk space is available to perform these upgrades. The approximate space needed for the upgrade should be determined by considering the size of the database, which should be approximately twice the size of the database itself.

To maintain the optimal performance of the SiteAudit database, it is strongly recommended to shrink the log file after each upgrade and periodically as part of regular database maintenance. For detailed instructions on shrinking the SiteAudit database log file, refer to the Shrink Database Log File article.

Note: For environments with more than 10,000 devices, please refer to the Enterprise Requirements article.

Data Storage

The amount of data stored for a device depends on its make and model. Environments with diverse fleets of printers—ranging from single-function black and white printers to multifunction devices with multiple consumables—can vary widely in stored data, typically between ~0.5MB/mo. to 5MB/mo. For instance, single-function printers may report only a total count and have a single toner, while multifunction devices can support numerous sophisticated counters and print sizes (e.g., A4 scan, A3 scan, A4 b/w scan, A4 color scan, A4 duplex b/w scan, scan to email, scan to network, scan to OneDrive, etc.). Additionally, these printers often support various protocols and security-related features, influencing overall data storage needs.

It is crucial to ensure adequate space for data growth, particularly during upgrades where SQL log files may expand significantly. We recommend configuring the SQL recovery model to Simple recovery and periodically shrinking log files to effectively manage their size.

Disk Size & Network Traffic

Both disk usage and network traffic generated by SiteAudit are low and manageable. This solution has been successfully implemented across diverse global environments. While it's important to acknowledge potential data growth and network traffic considerations, these factors typically pose minimal issues.

Please note that this information is provided as a guideline for making deployment decisions. It is based on historical and observational data from typical environments with varied printer types (such as single-function, multifunction, label, networked, and local printers), multiple counters, address spacing, IP addresses, and other relevant factors. Actual results may vary accordingly.

Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Cumulative Updates

To ensure proper operation, it is recommended to apply all patches and updates to Microsoft SQL Servers. Cumulative updates for Microsoft SQL Server 2019 can be found in the following article: KB4518398 - SQL Server 2019 build versions - Microsoft Support.
